All,

I have a problem to add here. i am attempting to monitor services on a
Win2k server from a Winnt server running WUG 6.02. Right now I am able to
monitor services on a Winnt server, but when i attempt to enumerate the
services on the Win2k Srv, it fails.

The account user/pass is the same on both boxes with admin rights all
around.

I checked the security settings in local security policy as discussed below
by matt and my LAN Manager Authentication Level is: "Send LM & NTLM
responses"

Any assistance would be appreciated.

I had issues monitoring NT from Win2k server... Problem was the
authentication method, which is set in the local security policy. 2k
supports stronger authentication than NT, so you have to allow LM and NTLM
in your Lan Man authentication settings.

Well Folks,

I am finally able to monitor NT Services. I originally had WhatsUP Gold
installed on a Win2K Pro box, but I removed it and placed it on an NT Box.
This newly installed configuration appears to be working as advertised. When
I get a chance I will look into the problem that I was having with the Win2K
Pro Box and let you know where the problem occurred. For now I will just
continue testing WUG. Thanks to everyone who provided assistance in this
regard. You were all quite responsive. That is another plus in favor of
WUG-this forum is ok.

Hope this helps,

Set up local admin accounts on all the boxes with identical user names and
passwords. Then run WUG using the local admin account.

Is there a way to designate domain\userid when accessing a different domain
without trust?

...and remember to use your WhatsUp Gold Debug log when testing monitoring
of NT Services - it will tell you exactly where the problem is.

It must have administrative rights to the REMOTE machine.

> Is the username and password the same on both?

That's one way to achieve it, particularly if you are not running in a
Windows domain, or the target host is in a different domain than you are.
You have WUG run under an account name and password that happens to match an
administrator-equivalent account name and password at the target.

> Is the remote machine in a domain? Is the WUG machine in a domain?

Either can be or not. If both are in the same domain, the whole thing is
easier because you can run WUG under any account that is in the "Domain
Admins" group. By default, any machine in a domain allows users in the
Domain Admin group to also administrate that machine.

If both are not, or one is and one isn't, then you probably are going to
have to use the "same username, same password" trick.

Hope that helps.
