When the interfaces got changed on the router, did the community string on the router
change? That could certainly cause
"the system did not see any interfaces on the router at all".

Now, there is one known issue in this area, but I don't think it's what you're seeing
- based on the description. But it may be food for thought.

====

An autodiscovery of an SNMP device will use the IfDescr field to populate the service
comment.

ie:

Monitor Comment
Interface(1) Ethernet0/0 (216.104.149.97)

When the device is "rediscovered", the comment is not updated if the IfDescr has
changed. The underlying reason is that the user might have manually customised the
text themselves.

The problem with this is that ifDescr cannot then be updated by the program unless the
user deletes the monitor(s) and then uses autodiscovery

Subject: [WhatsUp Forum] Auto Discovery Problem with What'sUpGold 8.0

I am having an issue with What's Up Gold V8.0. During the "testing" phase
of the project I was able to crate network maps of my sites and use the Auto
Discover to add interfaces from Cisco equipment that is in use here. We
then purchased the product and have been using it successfully for about a
month.

I then added a new interface to a router and attempted to use Auto Discover
to add the new interface and the system did not see any interfaces on the
router at all. To check this I deleted some interfaces from another router
and tried to add the interfaces back in and found the same problem.

I've contacted tech support and have had this issue open with them for about
a month. I was wondering if anyone else has seen this issue. Before anyone
asks, I've used another application to verify that SNMP was working from the
server that I've installed What'sUpGold on as well as de-installed and
reinstalled the product.

Any help or suggestions would be most appreciated.

Thanks!
