I'd really hate to PAY to make the software I've already paid
for as part of the cost of the drives work as it is supposed to
work.

If decent burning software costs you around $70.00+ on the street, do you think they will bundle software of this quality with OEM bulk burning units? For competition purposes they are required to bundle something. If they did not most sales would go to he who bundles cheap stuff. The same with computers. The bundler who sells a whole set for the same price as I sell just the box gets the lion's share of the new computer business. It is obvious that you have a better chance of getting high quality if you buy your components separately, the same as we audio buffs have done for decades. We older ones remember when the tuner was a separate unit, the preamplifier was a separate unit and the main amplifier was a separate unit. Now all of that is in one box and they call it a tuner-amp.
