Some years ago, I used to work for a company that did mostly government
defense work. You know, missiles and things :-) The only security for all
the drawings, which back then were on paper and mylar, was a foam system
located inside the print room (a cage of sorts), which would trigger much
like a sprinkler system. There were no extra copies stored away in concrete
bunkers in the desert. At least TMK :-)
Today, all data has to be kept in several copies in protected and secret
places. Even the silly stuff about how many exemptions you claimed on you
FIT deduction.
I posted the initial article, because every place, where I object to
supplying personal info, I'm assured that it will not go anywhere and will
not be used for any malicious purpose. The tapes that were lost in this
case, were most likely stolen for some purpose. Maybe even an inside job -
most likely IMO. How they would be used, I have no idea. But keeping data
on people, by private companies is not necessary and stupid. It can and
will fall into the wrong hands.
I recently moved some money from one bank to another. Within a week I
started getting offers of all sorts. You would think that you can trust
banks to keep your records reasonably secret -- BULL.
Regards,
Rich
