This is where the trail ends! There isn't any "Multimedia".

Hold on. You should see a check box under Accessories and Utilities for each of the following

Accessibility Wizard
Accessories
Communications
Games
Multimedia

Are you saying there is no "Multimedia" listing there at all ?

If that's the case then you've got even bigger problems. In an early posting you stated

Oops!! That volume icon ain't there!! It used to be. Someone
took it!! Maybe that's the problem.

If you did in fact had the volume icon there before & it's gone now as well as your Multimedia selection under Accessories and Utilities then I'm sorry to say you probably have a virus. Look in your Windows/Inf folder [it's normally a hidden folder] & open "sysoc.inf" & search for "MultiM". Make sure that on that line it does NOT say HIDE. If it does then take out the word HIDE but make sure you leave the commas as they are & save the file. Now the "Multimedia" entry should be where I had previously stated it should be. Also you should have a multimed.inf file in the same INF folder. You may want to search your system for the following files;

mplay32.exe
sndrec32.exe
sndvol32.exe
sndvol32.chm
sndvol32.hlp

If these files are on your system then there is indeed a problem that happened after Windows was installed.
