Thanks Wayne for digging it up.  The way I read it - retail kits are 1 yr.
That's a bit backwards.  Normally retail packaged products have better
"privileges".

Some of those barebone HD packages may have a 3 year limited waranty if you 
know where to look.
Circuity City is known for selling the waranty as a separate package on almost 
all of its electronics which
isn't included in the package so a word of caution applies here becuase they 
can charge you extra for it.
