From: "Joseph Harrison" >I have a HP DVD200i burner that burns at 2x or a bit better. >Can I use 8x disks with thisdrive? >The reason is that the 2.5 disks are $1.50 to $2.00 each, and 8x >has been on sale at $0.30 or less.
Note that blank DVDs are VERY different from CD-R in that they include all sorts of ATIP info for the drive to read to see what it can, (and can't) do with each disk. Example: CD-R disks do NOT have any type of speed info on them in the ATIP. I use a part of the Nero program that will read the disk and tell me what range of speeds the drive will burn a particular disk. It is part of the Nero Toolkit that comes with the Nero burning program. It is also available (stand-alone) here... http://www.cdspeed2000.com/ Nero CD-DVD Speed V4.01 Note: In different versions they moved this functionality from a drop down menu, to an icon, to a tab in the GUI... In any version, you are looking for "Disk Info". One thing important to remember when using this program: When it tells you the speeds of a CD-R, it is telling the capabilities OF THE DRIVE burn speeds. (There is no information in the ATIP on CD-R disks about what the actual disk burn speed might be.) When it tells you the speeds of a DVD-R &/or DVD+R, it is reading the actual speeds that the particular disk will record with that particular drive. I verified this by reading various blank disks and comparing what I saw with the speed rating on the disk or the disk packaging. Clear as mud, right? <grin> Rick -- ---------------------------------------- To Change your email Address for this list, send the following message: CHANGE WIN-HOME your_old_address your_new_address to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Note carefully that both old and new addresses are required.
