Since then Windows 98SE developed problems and will boot only in safe
mode. This is fine with me, as my requirements for this operating system
can be met in safe mode. I am hesitant (dignified word for "scared") to
reinstall Windows 98SE. I remember that Windows XP installed the dual boot
system on Drive C and any tampering from the Drive C environment could
mess this up. Then I could not boot to Windows XP. For this reason, I wish
I had just used a 2nd physical hard drive for Windows 98SE. I will, next
time I have to reinstall etc.
What difference would a 2nd physical HD make? Would the 98se installation
not have gotten fubarred? No. Xp would have it's boot.ini & ntldr & etc. on
the boot partition whether or not that partition is on the same physical HD
or not. You should be able to run 98se's "setup /p v" to do a repair
installation of 98se & I doubt that it'll screwup Xp but even if by chance
it should you can boot the Xp Cd & go to Recovery Console & run "fixboot"
so you see there is no reason to be "hesitant" or "scared".
Although this may not relate to your virtual drive environment, it may
help some who have interest in a dual boot system with Windows 98SE and XP.
So why not start a new subject/thread is it doesn't relate?
