One month ago I sent DirecTV an email saying I was seriously
considering dropping their service in favor of a better offer from
Dish. A very accommodating US-based retention specialist called
me back, and I wound up with a free second DVR (installation &
shipping also free), and free HBO and Showtime for six months.
My total DirecTV bill is $52 (includes extra receiver and DVR service).
With 3.0 Mb DSL that comes to $77. I don't have any HD yet, because
I can't justify junking a perfectly good 61" SD big screen.
