They probably are related. Did you install any mouse drivers
OTHER than the one for your touch pad? I've seen this behavior
when the Logitech mouse drivers are loaded along with the touch
pad drivers.
BTW mouse driver related issues can be quite weird. We had one
machine that would kick out of WordPerfect 9 when attempting to
spell check a document. Turned out to be the mouse driver they
had installed. Of course the mouse driver had to be the very
*last* item I turned off with msconfig while troubleshooting
the issue. :)
