Helen, Others may differ, however, I believe your best bet is to use a few different scanners.
On my machines, I regularly use Adaware, Spybot Search & Destroy, and Spyware Spyblaster. These are all free. There are paid versions for Adaware and Spyblaster. I've found these three "free" versions provide ample help in the fight. Yes. They all use different methods and yes some are better in certain areas than others. I don't believe there is one solution, paid or free, that can get it all. I have others that I use, however, the three above are my principle defense. No spyware/adware infection to date and the systems have been in operation since May 2004. Just like virus software, you need to keep these up to date. I used a package from PC Tools called Spy Doctor to scan my PC for infections and it found 66 items that it will remove for a price. I also used a spyware scan from microsoft and it did not find or list the infections that Spy Doctor found. Does that mean that they are using different search criteria or that one is better than the other? IOW, should I stick with the freebie? -- ---------------------------------------- The WIN-HOME mailing list is powered by L-Soft's renowned LISTSERV(R) list management software.
