Each network node or NIC adapter has an embedded address that looks
something like this: 01-00-C4-94-CE-44. You can see it by going
to the Command Prompt and doing a IPCONFIG /all.
Using MAC address filtering adds to wireless security, but a
determined hacker can use a sniffer to see the MAC address.

There is another option on some wireless routers and that is to allow access
by MAC address, then no key is needed. I don't understand about MAC
addresses - but now no one else can use my signal if they don't have
permission to be on the network. Key is most secure - bit my network has as
its identifier our phone number and people do call to borrow it when
visiting neighboring offices with no wireless.
