Determined hacker, nonsense, The mac address is broadcast in the clear with
every wireless packet (regardless of you encryption level), all you need is
ethereal or tcpdump and a wireless network card. Simple enough for even a 6
year old.
In my book, anyone who uses Ethereal or Tcpdump is a "hacker" of sorts.
I don't know any users who are familiar with those utilities, unless they
are a savvy network admin.
I was speaking in the context of operating a home wireless network in
a residential neighborhood.
