The only painful part about that was speaking an umpteen digit number into the phone for the automated responder, only to hear "I can't help you". <roll> Once I got an actual person, I explained what happened and a few moments later he said "OK, click Next" and everything was fine.

I have no problem with activation other than having to invest from 10 to 30 minutes (sometimes I have to wait in line on hold) of my time into calling Microsoft. I hit the switchhook on a cordless phone and use the keypad to answer the first 2 questions with dialing 1 and then I use the phone keypad to enter all those numbers. This way I do not miss.

I was just noting that Microsoft is on a roll, supporting the proprietary stuff more and more. As for now Microsoft approves and gives me the numbers. They very well may discontinue this. I fully expect more and more moves to be made by Microsoft to circumvent gutting proprietary stuff. I certainly do not have to call Microsoft to activate a clean install of Windows XP on a white box.

I know I will eventually have to purchase a Windows XP Media Edition OEM just to get the media, since I doubt any white box builders uses this operating system. If I do, I will still use and activate it with the customer's COA etc. This will happen when a customer is willing to pay for it to get a clean install. I realize I lose lots of business the way I do business.
