I'm not surprised by these observations. I was beginning to wonder if it was just me that was "Symantecphobic". Norton might have been ok in past times but now their apps just hog too much of a pc's resources IMHO. NAV is trouble waiting to happen whenever I've tried it - might even be early Borg technology - Your o/s will be assimilated. Resistance is futile. :)
AVG and ZoneAlarm has worked fine for me for a number of years and oh yes, do regular images / backups just in case of bad times. Happy New Year everyone, Bill. ----- Original Message ----- From: "McPeak, Harry D." <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, December 30, 2005 3:27 PM Subject: Re: CPU usage XP home I recently took the plunge and completely uninstalled NSW 2005, which included NAV. This is the first time I haven't had software with Peter Norton's name (if not his soul) running in years. I honestly can't believe how much better my system runs; boots faster, applications load and run faster, virtually no freeze-ups, etc. I switched to AVG-free and am currently looking around for a utility suite, as much for my own amusement as anything. I'm considering System Mechanic 6. BTW, I am running XP-Pro w/ auto update enabled. Happy New Year to all of you on the List, especially those of you who have tolerated my perpetually state of newbie-ness for all these years.
