Recap-- can't connect SATA to sata-0 or sata-1 but will work on raid
sata-0 & 1.
gigabyte say it's a MAXTOR problem. MAXTOR say it's a gigabyte
chipset driver
My Gigabyte board has 2 separate Sata RAID controllers with one using
a SIL [silicon image pci controller] while the other is nVidia Raid
Controller. In a moment of clarity I happen to recall that I could
never get the nVidia Raid controller to do raid & I called Gigabyte
about it but never solved that problem while it does single SATA
drives just fine & I have a WD250g off that controller. Since then
nVidia has come out with newer SATA drivers but I had already created
the RAID 0 that I wanted on the SIL controller that uses the PCI bus
altho Tom's said that it would be slower than the nVidia Raid
controller I would be very hard pressed to see a difference as the
thing with a pair of WD 74g Raptors absolutely flies. In the FWIW
dept I created a SIL driver plugin for XpPe & when booted it sees the
SIL raid just fine. Anyhow I recommend that you investigate who
manufactured your particular drive controller chipset [both raid &
non] & get the latest drivers from them not Gigabyte & see if that
gets your Maxtors going.
Good luck my friend.
