I had an Intel processor that was sensitive to room temps. With the average higher temps of the summer it started freezing at random times. This was even though the BIOS reported CPU temps of 50C or less.
I'd suggest running the Windows Memory Diagnostic in extended test mode overnight. http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp If it freezes with this, then you've likely got a processor or motherboard problem. If it finds memory problems then you know what to do next. It's happened twice already today: I discover it because my desktop gets all screwed up and I chase the problem down to its having trouble "mounting" drives from the desktop system, and then I look at the desktop system and find it frozen. I've done all sorts of scans and my system is totally virus and "-ware" free, so that doesn't seem to be the problem. I'm guessing hardware [my powersupply died a week or so ago and I wouldn't be surpised to learn that something else got damaged as it flaked out] but the fact is I haven't a clue how to pursue this. Only thing I can think of is to run some sort of *something* all the time that'll leave some tracks so I might have a hint about what was happening just before the system locked up... Windows [XP/Pro] doesn't seem to have any sort of hardware diagnostic suite... Is there one someone might recommend? /Bernie\ -- Bernie Cosell Fantasy Farm Fibers mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Pearisburg, VA --> Too many people, too few sheep <-- -- ---------------------------------------- WIN-HOME Archives: http://PEACH.EASE.LSOFT.COM/archives/WIN-HOME.html Contact the List Owner about anything: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Official Win-Home List Members Profiles Page http://www.besteffort.com/winhome/Profiles.html
