What I'd recommend, rather than doing a full upgrade, is to use Yast to
add/replace packages using the SuSE 7.0 disks.  A few packages should
flag themselves as uninstallable until you install teh new kernel, but
you can get a lot of the new stuff.

Now, I'm interested ... did you patch the SuSE 6.4 kernel, or use the
RPM to kernel-swap?  I haven't been able to get the "SuSE-2.2.14smp"
patch to work, and I need to tweak my kernel without losing Win4Lin. 
Win4Lin support seems to be ignoring my e-mail.
