I'm cc'ing the list in case anyone else finds this useful...

You need the following installed (on a Mandrake 7.1 system, there are
simlar RPMs for earlier or later versions):

ftp://rpmfind.net/linux/Mandrake/Mandrake/7.1/Mandrake/RPMS2/alsa-lib-devel-0.5.7-4mdk.i586.rpm
ftp://rpmfind.net/linux/Mandrake/Mandrake/7.1/Mandrake/RPMS2/alsa-source-0.5.7-4mdk.i586.rpm
ftp://rpmfind.net/linux/Mandrake/updates/7.1/RPMS/kernel-source-2.2.16-9mdk.i586.rpm

...and, possibly, whatever you need to meet dependencies...

Then, go to /usr/src, and make sure the 'linux' symbolic link points to
linux-2.2.16. Go into the /usr/src/linux/ directory, and copy the
/usr/doc/kernel-2.2.16/kernel-2.2.16-9mdk-i586.config file to .config,
and then edit the Makefile, and change the EXTRAVERSION to '-9w4l' (no
quotes :)

Then you should be able to go to /usr/src/drivers/alsa-* and rebuild for
the w4l kernel.

Let me know if that doesn't work for you...
