hope the back to school festivities haven't "slammed" you too much.
Have I mentioned that I love viruses?
Question -- how many schools are using 802.1x as a mainstay in their WLAN deployment? I know Utah has done a good bit. Others?
We have done quite a bit of research on both 802.1x and WPA.
Are you using PEAP or EAP-TLS? Self sign certs if TLS?
At this moment, we are using LEAP preparing to migrate to PEAP and possibly support both concurrently for a time. We have stayed away from TLS because of the management nightmares of client side certs.
What about OS-X and other non XP clients?
For MacOS 9 and X, we recommend that users purchase the Airport products and configure them for LEAP. They can also use the Aegis client (from Meetinghouse) with a small group of PC card products.
For Windows 9x, ME, 2K, and XP clients, the users is provided a list of wireless cards that are supported by our Helpdesk. These are cards that have been tested with the Aegis client (there are about 7 cards right now) in our environment.
We only support wireless as a form of access for laptops, notebooks, and tablet PCs - not desktops or servers. We currently don't support PDAs (CE or PalmOS) but are experimenting with the Aegis clients on both platforms. We do not support Linux clients.
Site license from Meetinghouse?
We just negotiated one and are distributing the v2.05 client on a CD this fall to our faculty, staff, and students. This CD also contains various other software such as our VPN client, various application clients, and customized software installations for each environment that is supported.
hope we can have a lively thread on this topic.
thanks.
