So far the list just keeps growing. So you get a long list, but you usually see
everything. I understand that there's going to be "regions" added soon to the
wireless code, so that will really help.

Usually the AppleTVs are named descriptively, but there's no way to keep people
from connecting to the wrong ones.

We constantly tell our users to use passwords to keep from getting hijacked,
but there's only so much you can do.

So far, I haven't had any complaints from other users being slowed and in
general the mirroring works fairly well. Although, in the odd times when they
aren't wired, we've seen lots of connectivity issues.

However, with all that said, I really couldn't recommend going down this path
if you haven't yet. AppleTVs just aren't ready for prime-time yet as far as I'm
concerned.

Eric,

How well do your idevices deal with seeing that many air capable devices being
advertised? How do you keep users from connecting to the wrong apple tv's? Do
you have the end users name them to the room and put password on them or is it
up to IT to do this for them? When the display mirroring is happening between
the apple tv and the idevice have you received any reports from other users in
the same area having slowness or connectivity issues due to the high duty cycle
the mirroring causes?

Thanks
Trent

We also wire the AppleTVs but we span a VLAN from the wireless controller
across campus so those AppleTVs are on a VLAN that is "local" to the
controller. Then the controller handles the mDNS and you don't have to deal
with Avahi. Works pretty well minus the fact that you can see all AppleTVs
across the network.

Sorry to jump in on the thread, but I took a slightly different approach to the
AppleTV and 802.1x worth mentioning. Instead of using wireless we wired the
AppleTVs. We are using a raspberrypi running Avahi right now to re-broadcast
the bonjour advertisements over wireless. It's just a test at the moment,
however, The AppleTVs don't necessary have to use wireless. I haven't seen this
idea mentioned before, and of course there are other scaling issues.

Trent,
Sorry for the delay - my response to your question:

"On your apple tv's are you connecting them to WPA/enterprise ssid? If so how
are you dealing with the time sync issue when the apple tv loses power?"

Is that we don't deal with it very well.
I met with our technical team yesterday and we are planning to limit the mDNS
service to our 802.1x SSID only.
As you know, to bootstrap the device to an 802.1x network, you need to plug in
an Ethernet cable first to get the time set and then unplug the cable to switch
over to WIFi.
If the device loses power, you need to repeat the sequence. There is no
current workaround that I'm aware of.
Either we find a way to make the device happy to think it is living at the dawn
of unix epoch or we wait for apple's promised fall 2013 ATV code upgrade to fix
change things.

I have been running it on 5508's with over 2500 aps, no real major issues that
I am seeing or that anyone is reporting to me.

We've been running for about two weeks on it, about 700 APs on four Wism2s with
no issues reported yet.
I wanted it to get the latest Bonjour configuration running. Apple TV pilot
project is going well.

Is anyone running this release? Is it stable?
