We've had to enable it to get iPads to roam properly on a WPA2/EAP/MSChapV2 network. iPads and Macbooks work, so far we haven't found any other device that will associate successfully with 802.11r enabled (but we haven't tried too many, just a few Dell laptops and Android devices.)
We obviously had to create a new SSID for this, and made it 5 GHz only.
