We run Ubiquiti CPE in router mode and it acts as the NAT router for
the customer. We install a wifi router inside as part of standard
install package, but just run it as a switch+AP. This gives us more
visibility into customer network for troubleshooting and abuse
detection (why does this house have 27 computers), protects the
wireless side from broadcast traffic and rouge DHCP (yes you can also
just filter for that). We have port forwards in our default config for
access to the router, voip ATA, etc. Overall it has worked very well,
especially now that ubnt has uPnP available which is required for XBox
to work properly.
