Of course you can. Install FreeBSD on a spare system, spare partition, virtualbox, vmware .... the options are endless. > the code is a mess and I'm 99% sure that it > already outdated just because it's more that 5 years old. Sorry, you're just plain wrong about that. It works now in FreeBSD, virtually unmodified. See http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/cvsweb.cgi/ports/x11/wdm/. The patches in the files/ directory there are mostly related to the addition of a drop-down menu to pick the WM that you want to load after you log in. patch-src::wdm::session.c is the only one that's relevant, and it's been in there in one form or another for almost 9 years. Just because something is old, doesn't mean that it doesn't work. It's also worth noting that development on WindowMaker had been stopped for years before Carlos resumed it. That doesn't mean it didn't work either. > If you can add support for modern non-linux-os-version, I will > gladly accept it. That's totally backwards. You're removing something that already works. It would be much better if you took the perspective of the project being cross-platform from the beginning, since that is how it always has been (like WindowMaker itself). ... not to mention that NeXTSTEP was a Mach kernel plus BSD code, just like OPENSTEP and OS X. :) Doug - -- This .signature sanitized for your protection -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v2.0.19 (FreeBSD) iQEcBAEBCAAGBQJP5ae5AAoJEFzGhvEaGryE+moH/3AW3WMYFbwE6Nl4vUnow2gp mJSrsTQDYoL9njwrCcO6nhjf3YjNJEtQnCNrxY6shdxs2ZVJe6TreWcXsgWz+mvA akDSXEayZN3ggUm5A4hs3iarz4MN7BDPPP1rk5jGV/wl6JYJLDnmKp576SAhXoGp v3KHnAxln/oV/ovglmzD3+12gv7V94Db7gEbRaJxvMh0NWm+7GbPm/ETceGEapU9 oMjM3TEAvJNKEBv0pIw6QCYmhtt/l0dAbI2PYOC9E9Gjyz+2haIYYNFxVO8q2ite zYIawzObm+6YZqYwsxlr5wuh3ed4VE5qd4JSVMQ0Z3bE/akRn5OSk97lNXJGoV0= =aO23 -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- To unsubscribe, send mail to [email protected].
