Greetings Window Maker developers!

As probably you all know, Window Maker used to be the official window
manager of the GNU operating system. However, several years ago, its
GNU maintainers become unresponsive to GNU project's requests, and its
development has, since then, been moved away from GNU project's
facilities and its role within the GNU operating system has become
uncertain.

Presently, the GNU project is working on its distribution of the GNU
operating system[1], and recently a discussion was held in GNU
project's private mailing list about which would be its default
desktop environment. It's a consensus within the GNU project that a
GNUstep-based desktop environment ought to have its place by GNOME's
side.

GNUstep is a framework for GUI development, and as such doesn't
require any particular window manager. Nonetheless, there was a time
in which GNU Window Maker was part of the GNUstep project and they
formed a beautiful couple for recreating the beloved NeXtSTEP's
functionality, look and feel: a consistent and unique experience that
cannot be found anywhere else in the free world.

The GNU project is, therefore, interested in getting Window Maker back
into the GNU operating system and under its umbrella. Furthermore,
the Window Maker community will certainly benefit from the promotion
and support given by the GNU project and the Free Software Foundation.

Would you like to join us again?
