Just to add
You MUST answer 'yes' (not the default) when asked if you want to fetch
and build wxWidgets. The installed wxWidgets with Ubuntu is broken in
various ways for various releases.
See Steve's mail list posts for list of prerequisites you may need
installed to build wxWidgets.
