Hi Shawn, If you do a search here or on PerlMonks or on the wxWidgets mailing list (in Google groups) on MediaCtrl/GStreamer or Kubuntu, you will find mostly correspondence between me Mark, Mattia and Vadim going back two or more years. It has been not a little frustrating.
However, it IS do-able, I have Kubuntu 10.04 with a custom build of 2.8.11 wxWidgets with wxMediaCtrl, plus modifications to GStreamer to allow me to record and playback a webcam. I have problems with 10.10+, but I don't plan to fix those yet. When I do this list will be the first to know.
