thanks for the response. I've been playing around with the permissions
and when in the /Users/amy/Library/Logs/X11 directory I've changed the
permissions to this:
-rwxrwxrwx+ 1 amy staff 8408
but I'm completely ignorant to these permissions settings and am not
sure I set them to the correct settings. When trying to remove the .log
file (using the 'rm' command) it still tells me that my permission is
denied, so I'm assuming I still don't have the correct permission
settings. any suggestions? thanks : )

As pointed out by Brandon Allbery (thanks Brandon!) there is in fact
a 'Users/amy/Library' directory (please forgive my naivete). I can
navigate to the .log file in terminal but still do not understand
why it cannot move this file. Again, maybe this is a permissions
error?
Show us output from `ls -ld /Users/amy/Library/Logs/X11`?
