Hi All,
I have several issues with the latest Xquartz not running on an upgrade
to High Sierra (yes, I know HS a way back - shouldn't really matter).
(1) Most of my install is Fink. I believe the fink X11 startup scripts are not
supposed to care where Xquartz comes from.
I have latest xquartz from macports's
xorg-server (Installs Applications/Macports/X11.app). Suggested by recent
traffic as the way to go.
a) Double-clicking Applications/Macports/X11.app makes the X11 icon bounce
endlessly but doesn't
end up doing anything.
b) Firing off xterm from terminal doesn't kick off X11 either.
c) If I run /opt/local/bin/Xquartz
X does start up, but not the underlying windows manager quartz-wm.
I can start this manually within an xterm started by X11 (which is initially
placed without a windowed manager). So it looks like all the startup scripts
are not getting fired etc.
I think someone else saw this - can't track it down. Has anyone else seen this?
Any suggestions on tracking down the Xquartz loading sequence of files?
Related bugs?
(2) Even when X11 is finally up; fonts - especially in emacs, look quite ugly.
Almost unusable.
It's a retina MBP.
Suggestions? Related to failed scripts?
Grateful for any suggestions.
Best wishes all
James.
