Yes, this was my question, not the other. I doubt if it will make a big
difference to checkout speed one way or the other.
It wouldn't hurt to get rid of the attic files eventually, but I would like
to go a bit slow on this.

Well, I don't want to do it yet if you or anyone else is really unhappy
about it. On the other hand, I would like to get it done soon.
