Another thought as I am cranking through this again on a clean system, following the directions here: http://xastir.org/index.php/HowTo:Raspbian <http://xastir.org/index.php/HowTo:Raspbian> you need to make sure you are starting at Preparing the System and ensure that all the various support packages are installed before you clone the Xastir code. I assumed you had already done that, but that might not be a true state, so to be pedantic, make sure you have all the goo to build before you start.
