I have a Linux-based cellphone, a Motorola E680i ( read about it here http://www.phonescoop.com/phones/phone.php?p=491 ) The kernel source is at http://sourceforge.net/projects/e680/
Advantages of the phone: 50Meg internal memory that also accepts up to 2G SD memory card 240x320 QVGA touch screen Runs many Java programs (I've tested several from http://tuxmobil.org/pda_linux_apps_java.html ) USB interface to computer/charger multifunction use (while talking on the phone, I can edit the calendar, browse internet, etc...) Disadvantages: Short battery life (the battery lasts about 8 hours or less and it's dead) This phone was introduced in Asia, as such, ONLY the 1900MHz of this tri-band phone works in the USA (If you live in a rural area, the 1900 band may not be supported, and inside a metal building, you will have ZERO signal.) I use Cingular and live near Dallas, Tx. There are areas I can't get any cell coverage at all or are very marginal. Still, I like the bells and whistles of this phone. Just wish the european and US cell bands were all compatible... - Mark N4CMB -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of William McKeehan Sent: Friday, May 25, 2007 11:23 AM To: xastir@xastir.org Subject: Re: [Xastir] Xastir on a handheld I had hopes that there was some relatively simple hand held out there that could run Linux enough to get Xastir up and going. Looks like I'll have to opt for a small Laptop to see it anytime soon. A tablet pc would be nice, but they are still a bit expensive. For example: Samsung Q1 Ultra Mobile PC Intel Celeron M Processor, 900MHz, 512MB RAM, 40GB Hard Drive, 7-inch WVGA TFT Display, Windows XP Tablet PC Edition $1,000 And there's not a lot of computer there for that price especially when you consider that you could easily get 2 notebooks each with faster processors and more ram/hd, etc. I too have a Treo 650, but have been less than thrilled about what I've seen on the Linux front there. And a recent slash-dot story about the Palm operating system going down actually has me looking at a Windows based hand held. Oh well, thanks to everyone for responding with some ideas. -- William KI4HDU _______________________________________________ Xastir mailing list Xastir@xastir.org http://lists.xastir.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/xastir _______________________________________________ Xastir mailing list Xastir@xastir.org http://lists.xastir.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/xastir
