            implementation in zVM 6.1

Dear Thang Pham,

Thanks for your input.

We have the entries for all the following,

Worker server :

VSMREQIN,VSMREQI6,VSMREQIM, VSMREQIU,VSMPROXY

Request Server :

VSMWORK1, VSMWORK2, VSMWORK3

1) Do we need to add VSMGUARD also ?
See http://www.vm.ibm.com/service/news/smaprob.html.

VSMGUARD is not required when not running with Unified Resource Manager.
However, using VSMGUARD in all SMAPI installations is recommended.

The following is the recommended directory entry for the worker servers
(including VSMGUARD, VSMWORK1, VSMWORK2, and VSMWORK3). Since the worker
servers process requests that require various privileges, the worker
servers must have all of the privilege classes (A through G).
USER name name 128M 512M ABCDEFG
      IPL CMS PARM AUTOCR
      OPTION DIAG88 MAINTCCW LNKS LNKE
      MACHINE ESA
      IUCV ANY MSGLIMIT 255
      CONSOLE 0009 3215 T
      NAMESAVE VSMDCSS
      SPOOL 000C 2540 READER *
      SPOOL 000D 2540 PUNCH A
      SPOOL 000E 1403 A
      LINK MAINT 190 190 RR
      LINK MAINT 19E 19E RR
      LINK MAINT 193 193 RR
      LINK MAINT CF1 CF1 MD
      LINK MAINT CF2 CF2 MD
      LINK TCPMAINT 591 591 RR
      LINK TCPMAINT 592 592 RR
      MDISK 191 3390 2398 025 610RES MR READ WRITE MULTIPLE

  where name is VSMWORK1 , VSMWORK2 , or VSMWORK3 (assuming
you're using three worker servers, as per the default installation,
  plus VSMGUARD.

2) Is it enough to just login to the servers for bringing them up ( By
doing this have we started the server ) ?
Please see
http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/zvm/v6r1/topic/com.ibm.zvm.v610.dmse6/hcsl8c0139.htm#wq39.
Under the "Starting the Server Environment", it states:
In installations that have a GUARD machine configured, |the server is
started by autologging the VSMGUARD userid. In all other |environments,
the server is started by autologging the VSMWORK1 userid.  In both
cases, this will start all other worker and request servers.

3) How do we provide Directory Manager authority to worker server ?
Please go thru
http://pic.dhe.ibm.com/infocenter/director/v6r2x/topic/com.ibm.director.install.helps.doc/fqm0_t_configure_systems_management_environment.html.
Step 5 shows you how to do this.

4) We have not did the step -1 yet in

http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/xcat/index.php?title=XCAT_zVM_Setup#Configuring_z.2FVM.2C_SMAPI.2C_and_DirMaint

we configured DirMaint and now working on SMAPI. Can we do that step 1
after doing this ?
Step 1 only creates a custom privilege class. It is optional, but can be
done after you configure DirMaint and SMAPI.

Kindly provide your valuable thoughts to the above queries.

Thanks and Regards,

Since you have the default user entries, there is nothing more for you to
do. You just need to authorized the zHCP for DirMaint and SMAPI access
(step 3-5 in
http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/xcat/index.php?title=XCAT_zVM_Setup#Configuring_z.2FVM.2C_SMAPI.2C_and_DirMaint
).

You can view any user entry by:
1. Request the directory entry
==> DIRM FOR <userid> GET

2. Open the reader
==> RDR
3. Find the file based on its user ID and hit F11 to peek at it.

Hi Team,

We have the following user entries in USER DIRECT before configuring
Dirmaint as specified in the sourceforge website.

VSMWORK1,VSMWORK2,VSMWORK3 & VSMREQIN,VSMREQI6,VSMREQIM, VSMREQIU , b

Please help us with the following questions.
1. Do we need to create the same for VSMGUARD like
VSMWORK1,VSMWORK2,VSMWORK3 ?
2. Can we create use the same dirm add command for making this server
entry ?
3. How do we view this using dirmaint command ?
4. How do we provide Directory Manager authority to worker server ?
5. How to start these servers and how to use Check Authentication command
to verify the server?

Thanks in advance.

Documentation on how to configure SMAPI, DirMaint, and the zHCP are
documented on the xCAT wiki:
http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/xcat/index.php?title=XCAT_zVM_Setup#Installation_of_zHCP
.

On there, there is a link to an IBM InfoCenter page which details how to
setup the SMAPI worker machines.

in zVM 6.1

Dear Team,

We are trying to implement xCAT in our zVM 6.1 environment .

We have installed xCAT in a Linux image
We have configured DirMaint

Now we are trying to Install and configure SMAPI but unable to proceed
further.

We refered the available Red books in public domain including

z/VM: Directory Maintenance Facility Commands Reference
z/VM: Directory Maintenance Facility Tailoring and Administration Guide
z/VM: Directory Maintenance Facility Messages

Is it fine if we implement it in the below way :

we have define the request and worker server (This comes during
installation )

Authuorization for request server comes by default in zVM 6.1 so we need to
provide DirMaint authority to worker server, if so how do we give he
authorization.

Following this just starting the server by logging in to VSMWORK1.
