I still see the XCSoar Flarm display as a more of a tactical one than an
alarm/safety display. But one situation where there is more information
available from XCsoar than a standard Flarm "remote" LED display is when
there are multiple Flarm equipped gliders in the immediate area.

Perhaps the following feature would be useful:

- A configurable "threat volume" in XCSoar. (Say 500m radius
horizontally and 100m vertical separation from the XCSoar equipped glider).

- A ring displayed on the XCsoar Flarm radar to illustrate the
horizontal extent of the threat volume.

- A display in XCSoar that indicates the number of Flarm targets inside
the threat volume in an info box and/or on the XCSoar Flarm radar screen.

Then when XCSoar shows 3 flarm targets in your immediate vicinity and
you are only aware of 2 gliders, then you should be alerted to start
looking for the missing one!

Of course not all gliders are Flarm equipped. Even in a club where Flarm
has been widely adopted years ago we have some gliders that are not
equipped. (Eg New arrivals, visitors and a few members who don't believe
in Flarm). There are also occasions when the Flarm in a particular
glider stops working for some or other reason (eg Antenna faults, cable
faults, blown fuses, battery failure, flarm unit failure and out of date
software). So you can never assume that the information on the Flarm
display represents ALL of the threats in the sky.

The adoption of Flarm by our club was also motivated in part by an
accident in a local competition that resulted in two fatalities. I
sympathise with your loss and commend your efforts to develop the
technology.
