Yes -- the service was installed.  I had used some combination of XMail,
XMailInstaller and XMWizard in trying to configure things, and perhaps =
this
contributed to the problem.  I did an XMail --remove, waited for the =
service
to go away and then did an XMail --install again, and now the service =
starts
up properly.

Thanks again for your help.  I'm becoming a big fan of XMail!

   That should do it.

   Do you have the xmail service installed?
   (do you see it in the services, i.e., did you run xmail --install)
