It needs the AD Domain name only. It finds a controller and authenticates
with it using the supplied user name and password.
I can send you the source or post it on an FTP server. I have no
documentation except for comments in the source but I could throw something
together if there is any interest.
I don't know if it can be ported to an external auth module but it probably
could, i never tried.
PS: It requires Windows 2000 or XP.

Could you make it available, does it come with documentation.
Can it be 'ported' to and external auth module?
How do you configure the AD server name/IP address, &credentials?

Subject: [xmail] Add/Delete/Change password for users

I have written a module in C++ (VC6) that uses active directory for xmail
authentication.
If mail arrives for an active directory user an xmail account is
automatically created with default settings. The password is not stored in
any .tab file. If an active directory user checks mail an account is created
in the same way. This is compiled as part of xmail, it is not an external
program. It involves adding a call to the authentication module from
UPopBuildSession( ) for POP3 and a call from SMTPCheckForwardPath( ) for
SMTP authentication.
I have been using since version 1.20 with no issues.
