svgalib uses modelines which resemble those of the X-server.
Didn't try it myself to be honest, so can't help you I'm afraid.

Look for DGA in the documentation. Altough there seem to be some
problems with it, depending on the configuration you have.

Pressing <right alt>+<enter/return> should do the trick. It only
switches to the resolutions you have defined in your
XFree-configuration.
