ok, that was sort of stupid of me. i don't know why i gave up trying to get 
my monitor to sync. i just tried the modelines from contrib/tools/ and they 
work great. everything runs at 60 fps in dga.

i guess i was figuring scaling shouldn't matter. thanks for the tips.
