Yeah, but the last part of that question is can you get the same behavior using just the frambuffer? If so do you specify modelines for the various resolutions and where? If it's not possible then I'll go with X even if there was a performance benefit to just using the framebuffer. But I'm curious as to what other people might have done or just the pure facts that X with DGA will always whip the pants off using only the framebuffer or vice versa.
