the way i do it (for my daliclock, which for some reason i couldn't figure
out how to save as borderless, but maybe a more recent gnome than i was
using 2 years ago supports it better) is to right click on the titlebar
and set "frame type" to none.

this is with default keybindings and settings in sawfish.
