The gun needs to count the sync pulses used to generate the picture - and most TV-Out chipsets receive lines from the computer at twice the rate they show them on the TV screen, so the TV-Out and VGA ports aren't properly in sync. Add to that the fact that some TV-Out capable cards actually have totally separate DACs for VGA and TV-Out, and you should be able to see the problem! I presume you're connecting the gun to the VGA port, and pointing it at the TV Screen. The only way to get this going would be to build some kind of circuit to extract the sync pulses from the actual video signal going to the TV, instead of the VGA signal. Note that I haven't tried this, but I reckon you'd need something like an LM1881 IC. All the best, -- Alastair M.
