I removed the jimi plugin, installed the Batik plugin, and re-started XXE. It
still did not convert the SVG images. Also, the results are a little worse than
before. Some PNGs could not be processed. I don't know why.

Yes, I am starting to discover that it is not possible to use this software
for the simplest thing without reading a lot. Your FAQ says something
about that, so it is OK.

Fortunately, I am only
trying to convert a document that I have already written to Ooo.org. If
I had to create a document, I would be in deep trouble. Still, I am sure
that once you are used to it, it must be easier than typing the tags by hand,
although I get a lot of help from emacs + nxml-mode.

I was hoping that "many" included SVG. I suppose that they really mean
many *raster*? image formats. Anyway, there are also one or two TIFF
images in my document.

OK.

Actually, I was going to use Ghostscript to convert the PDFs to a supported
format. I am glad that there seems to be a way to make XXE do the conversion
for me.
