I had the same problem on my Mac. It seemed related to the guest additions configuration; getting rid of your old guest additions and your old xorg.conf and rebooting *should* get you a working X server. The new guest additions do work, but I found I had to run /opt/ VirtualBoxAdditions/x11config.pl by hand to get them configured. All a bit messy :-( Cheers, Chris
