Greetings, looking at http://wikis.sun.com/display/FOSSdocs/Home there are two requests for hardware documentation for Creator3D and Elite3D framebuffers. The requests are from April 2008 and their status is "Investigating". Can anyone from the Sparc graphics group tells us if there have been any developments in regard to releasing hardware documentation for those framebuffers?
It's a shame Sun pulled the plug on their Sparc workstations, which makes it even more relevant to have hardware documentation for older models. I still use my Ultra 10 almost every day, the machine is 10 years old and it never failed me. I only had to replace the NVRAM module a year ago due to a dead battery and it'll be good for another 10 years. We know that Sun have internal documentation for the above hardware. The question is then, how difficult is it for them to release it. Can we at least have the FFB Reference Manual, Part No 801-5848-01, I think? Is there anything later than revision 1.2.3? Something that documents Creator Series 3, which has support for 4 hardware colormaps and adjustable gamma correction. Well, if you can't fight the system (Sun) you can always bend the rules and send the documentation via anonymous email :-) The hardware is obsolete anyway, who cares if hobbyists find out how to program it. -- This message posted from opensolaris.org
