BTW, what I did over the weekend: I got the sunffb driver running inside
Xorg (just writing this mail under
twm/mozilla/Xorg6.9.0/Sol2.10FCS/Elite3D-M6_Series2[X6379A]/SB2000).

I myself am a bit sluggish currently, because I work a few days on one
front (Maths) then on the next one (SUNWqemu), ... only then MRTXxorg.
But I do continue to work on all of those three key areas (plus exam
prep for a handful of in- and external exams).

As you say it, Stuart: "patience, grasshopper".

Enjoy the preview:

(==) SUNFFB(0): DPI set to (75, 75)
(--) Depth 24 pixmap format is 32 bpp
(II) do I need RAC? No, I don't.
(II) resource ranges after preInit:
(II) /dev/fb0: AFB: Detected Elite3D/M6.
(II) /dev/fb0: BT498 (PAC2) ramdac detected
(II) /dev/fb0: Detected Elite3D M3/M6, checking firmware...
(II) /dev/fb0: ... AFB firmware is loaded
(==) SUNFFB(0): Backing store disabled
(==) SUNFFB(0): Silken mouse disabled
(II) /dev/fb0: Using acceleration
(II) /dev/fb0: DGA support initialized.
(==) SUNFFB(0): DPMS disabled
(==) RandR enabled

No aperture driver is required anymore (better security).
FB accelleration works.
OpenGL 1.5 too.

Now I, personally, do not depend on Xsun anymore, but have made Xorg my
complete default - also on the SB2Ks with Creator and Elite UPA cards.
Though not entirely true: I still have to fix the bus scanning issue on
the SPARCle.
A clean-up is also required before release.
The sunffb driver can, however, lead to a forced reset of the whole
machine (cpu0 detected error ...).
A number of other problems.

p.s. The major Xorg at sparc/XFree86 at sparc porting work dates back to 2001
and has been done by certain _other_ people.
So I didn't have to change too much :)
