I think going for a PCIe x1 card makes more sense than a PCI one from the modernity and the out=of-the-box support from OpenSolaris. I think I might have found 2 devices that fit the criteria of being PCIe x1, low-cost, passively-cooled etc. They much more powerful than I need, but should do the job: 1.
