Cde Funky, What is wrong that Cde Smanga did by asking the question on this special treatment of your former leader and my former president. I do not subscribe to the view that says because you are a former leader you should be consulted when call of Organisational duty warrant so. You see my leader all of us take an oath as depicted on page 9 of the ANC Constitution, which state : That I will place my energies and skills at the disposal of the organisation and carry out tasks given to me...." This should be the bone of our discussion in reviewing wether it was proper or improper for Cde Thabo Mbeki to loom larger than the Organisation? My view which I share with Smanga is that the NEC and NWC resolve to say all of us should go on an offensive campaign for the ANC and that includes all those that took that oath unless otherwise. To say we must consult him is like what we have been arguing in terms of the Criminal Justice Act for the rights of Cde Zuma to be consulted before the NPA charge or re-charge him. That's the privilege which we know but soon as you become an ANC member such privilege cease to exist as the structure of the Organisation takes a lead, which Mbeki is not immune from. In questioning this new tendencies, wherein members do not follow proper procedure or decide to communicate directly with NEC, is a true element of disrespecting the structures of the ANC. We saw it with Lekota not wanting to operate from Branch and feels he is larger than a Branch now its Mbeki and when cdes question this new tendency you label us ill disciple or arrogant and disrespectful to the elders. Funky come back to our level and if you have views go raise them in your Branch and stop become a self-appointed Spokesperson whose task is to disrespect the ANC in Media. To be senior should also mean respecting structures of the movement.
Cde Smanga you are correct to question this new found energy and we should not keep quite and we are not afraid to engage. Firstly, I want to state categorically that the ANC has one President, and that is Cde Jacob G. Zuma. What this means with regards to the letter is that a sitting President was not assuming the former President who is loyal to the organisation will campaign in the elections. He knows that the former President is a loyal and dedicated cadre of the ANC, so he was not wrong to state publicly that the former President will campaign. Loyalty that the former President declared, I assume means subscribing to the positions, views and decisions of the ANC, this to include participating like all members in the campaigns. Why have I not been asked whether I will be involved in the campaigns? Does the ANC need to consult all of us whether we are going to participate in the election campaign because the President is JZ? Why were we not consulted whether we will campaign in the past? Did the ANC ask Chief Luthuli whether he will form part of the campaigns? Did the ANC ask Tambo on whether he would like to be involved in the formation of uMkhonto we Sizwe? Did the ANC ask Mandela on whether he would want to be the face of the campaign to free political prisoners? Please comrades, let us understand the declaration we sign when we join the ANC. I think that is where we must start. Cde President stayed within the movement and said I will serve in whatever capacity I am afforded the opportunity to serve in, as long as the interests of the people and the movement are served. Big English is the problem maybe, but I understood the former President to say he needs to be consulted. He is too big for his shoes. I am also part of the many thousands of special members of the ANC that are not bigger than the revolutionary vehicle, entrusted by history with the task of transformation of South Africa and servicing the people. Forward with achieving the more than 2/3 majority of the ANC under JZ!!!
