"The Upliftment of the Poor" will never happen it is just a political catch
phrase used by politicians to get the public to vote for them.

Give me an example of one country in the world were there is no poor people
and were the government is actually uplifting poor people.

Every man/woman in South Africa is responsible for his/her own standard of
living and that is a cold hard fact.

Thank you,

Lucas

Subject: [YCLSA Discussion] Green Paper

"Cosatu and the leftists scored a major victory after Minister in the
Presidency Trevor Manuel toned down the green paper on the contentious
National Planning Commission.

"The revised green paper strips the planning commission of its executive
functions, which Cosatu strongly objected to and claimed would effectively
turn Manuel into a prime minister."

These opening words by Caiphus Kgosana in the 'Sunday Independent' tell us a
lot. How can 'leftists' undermine the role of the planning commission and
yet still be working in the interests of the working class?

The elation of Helen Zille over the revision of the Green Paper has
demonstrated clearly tha COSATU (and not for the first time) is objectively
working in unison with monopoly capital which hates all planning unless from
within its own structures. This is a step backwards fom the implementation
of Polokwane decisions and will inevitably delay the uplifting of the living
standards of the poorest of the poor.
