I believe there are at least 2 versions at the moment - an official one (ObjectiveC implementation) and an experimental one (PyObjC/Python implementation) [1]. IIRC, it was the former that had problems (at least mentioned at the Quicksilver forums). I think the latter implementation was/is used by a small number of folks and I don't remember receiving any communication about it causing problems w/ the service ;-)
[1] The main reason for the alternate implementation was to be able to get at bookmarks via tags -- IIUC, this functionality should be entering the 'official' implementation soon.
