For a social searching type service, you might look at how
http://www.yubnub.org does it.
They even have a search plugin for firefox.
I search with a Ctrl+K to get to the search box and add a shortcut to the
front of my search to select which search to perform:
gg is google
dict for a dictionary look up...
often I can guess what to use...
flickr does a search on flicker,
gis does a Google Image Search.
A way to model these in del.icio.us would be very useful.
